Laser cladding · laser alloying · roll remanufacturing · service centre

Worn is not finished.

In Izmir, BEISCO gives worn rolls a new wear-resistant surface by laser cladding and alloying and sends them back to the mill. BEISCO is also RHCNC's service centre for laser and roll-lathe equipment in Türkiye and the region.

RHCNC

RHCNC laser and roll-lathe equipment: BEISCO is the service centre

A roll does not wear out all at once. It wears in the groove, at the neck, on the surfaces that meet the steel. The rest is still there: the steel, the casting or forging, the heat treatment. The mill has already paid for all of it. Laser technology rebuilds the part that wore. This is the work at the centre of BERUI. This chapter follows it from the worn groove to the rebuilt roll, and to the service behind the machines.

Laser surface strengthening

Alloying · cladding · hardening

A new surface, built with light.

A high-energy laser beam scans the surface. Heating and cooling happen so fast that the surface either changes its structure or takes on new material.

Three processes

  1. Laser alloyingAlloying elements are fused into the roll surface, forming an alloy layer of approx. 1.5–2.0 mm of ultra-fine martensite and dispersed carbides. Groove dimensions stay unchanged and no further machining is needed. Typical parts: roll grooves in roughing, intermediate and finishing stands.
  2. Laser claddingSelf-fluxing alloy powder is melted onto the surface and bonds metallurgically, with a very low dilution rate. Used to rebuild roll necks, gear-shaft bearing journals and guide rollers. Typical parts: roll necks · bearing journals · guide rollers.
  3. Laser hardeningAlso known as laser quenching. The laser heats the surface past its transformation point, and the cold mass of the part quenches it to martensite. The composition stays the same; deformation is minimal. Typical parts: packing-machine reels · driving and driven wheels.

Why laser

  1. Little distortionHigh power density and a very short interaction time keep the heat-affected zone and the part's deformation minimal.
  2. Local treatmentHeat goes only where it is needed, so complex profiles and key areas can be treated, under automated control.
  3. Harder surfaceA harder surface than conventional heat treatment gives, after laser quenching or alloying.
  4. A wear layer on a lower-cost baseA wear- and corrosion-resistant alloy layer is built on a lower-cost substrate, saving precious alloy material.

The Izmir workshop

Laser roll remanufacturing in Izmir

Worn roll in. Harder-wearing roll out.

BEISCO remanufactures worn rolls and parts in Izmir, with RHCNC as technology partner.

A worn roll is not scrap. It is steel, casting or forging, and heat treatment the mill has already paid for. BEISCO collects worn rolls, mainly from roughing and intermediate stands, repairs them in its Izmir workshop and builds a new wear-resistant surface with laser cladding and alloying from metal powder.

For the mill, that can mean fewer new rolls to buy. What it means for your rolls depends on roll material, pass design and rolling practice.

What we rebuild

What we remanufacture: rolls, shafts, rollers

Mainly rolls. Not only rolls.

The Izmir workshop concentrates on rolls from roughing and intermediate stands. The same laser process restores shafts, rollers and mining drill parts.

  1. Roughing and intermediate stand rollsWorn rolls are collected from the mill, rebuilt in Izmir and returned to the stand: the core of the workshop's work.
  2. ShaftsWorn surfaces rebuilt with a laser-clad layer and machined back to size.
  3. RollersWorn running surfaces rebuilt the same way.
  4. Mining drill partsThe same laser process, used outside the steel plant on wear parts of mining drills.
